1936: Football coach and broadcaster John Madden, who led the Oakland Raiders to victory in Super Bowl XI in 1977 and went on to a long career as a color commentator for NFL telecasts, is born in Austin, Minnesota. Madden, who spent 2002 to 2006 on Monday Night Football, is also known for the long-running "Madden NFL" video game series.
