Two police officers were injured while responding to a disturbance at a wedding party Sunday, according to Monona police.
Police were called to the East Side Club at 3735 Monona Drive at 6:20 p.m. for a report of a disturbance at a wedding party and a report that a person tried to run someone over with a vehicle in a parking lot.
Monona police said they requested assistance from Madison police because of the number of people involved and because of the intensity of the dispute.
Police said they separated some of the people involved in the disturbance. One man became combative, fought with officers and bit one of them in the hand, according to the report. Police said while two officers tried to get the man under control, a group of people tried to intervene to free him and advanced on the officers who were struggling with the man on the ground.
One of the two officers on the ground was injured while a third officer tried to hold back the advancing crowd, police said.
Four people were arrested, including the man who is suspected of biting an officer.
A Monona police officer and Madison police officer were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries. One of the arrested individuals also received treatment at a hospital.
Police said it appears alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident.
