No one was injured in a house fire on Farmland Avenue in Sparta Tuesday afternoon.
When firefighters arrived on scene at about 2:30 p.m., flames were coming out of the upstairs windows.
Sparta Area Fire Chief Mike Arnold said a mother and young child got out of the house safe. A dog was trapped inside when firefighters arrived, but one of the homeowners opened the door and the dog was able to get out safe.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Crews were able to contain the fire to the second floor, which is where Chief Arnold said it likely started. The home does not appear to be a total loss.
Chief Arnold said the family will be staying with relatives until their house can be repaired, Chief Arnold said.
