LA CROSSE, WI (WKBT) -

It's probably safe to assume when you think of celebrating New Year's Eve... you don't expect to be in a hospital - but that's exactly where the Bahr family celebrated.

Matt and Brooke welcomed Jacob Christopher into the world at about 4 p.m. Tuesday at Mayo Clinic Health System. Jacob came a few weeks early, weighing in at 5 lbs. 15 oz.

"We came in just expecting that I was going to get checked out, then 30 minutes later they were having the baby delivered,” said parents Brooke and Matt Bahr. “You can't have a better way to end the year."

Hours later, the Mara family had a new baby of their own. Blake Alexander is Mayo's first baby of 2014. The Maras say so far, Blake is quiet and content.

"We were scheduled to be induced this morning at 7:30 a.m., then at 3 a.m. I started having contractions,” said mother Mary. “They were getting pretty intense, so I said 'Well, he's coming on his own terms.' So we hopped over here, and he was born at 9:33."

Baby Emily Josephine was eager to start 2014 with her new family.

Lisa Halverson and Troy Weihrouch welcomed Emily into the world at Gundersen Health System.

She was born at 12:01 Wednesday morning – but her arrival was more festive than most.

"We actually could hear the fireworks that were going off right after she got here,” said proud parents Lisa and Troy. “It was really cool.”

Emily was born 8 lbs. 9 oz. and is very healthy.
