LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

UW-La Crosse health services is testing a new drug which could be more effective than traditional anti-viral medication.

The new drug sponsored by La Crosse Health and Human Services shortens the length of the flu and lessens the complications that coincide with the virus. Researchers say the drug also stops the flu virus from spreading and replicating inside your body.

Doctors hope the drug will act as another option for clinics in times of emergency.

"This is just in preparation of if the nation would ever face a pandemic,  they would like to have as many options as possible to treat influenza," said Dr. Brian Allen, Director of UW-L's health center.

Researchers say they are always looking for participants in the study. To learn more about the drug visit www.influencestudy.com.
