CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (AP) -

Neighbors rescued two small dogs from a house on fire in Cedar Rapids before firefighters arrived and extinguished the blaze.

Fire department spokesman Greg Buelow says Steve Jordan looked out a living room window Sunday evening and noticed smoke coming out of roof vents of a house across the street.

Jordan and another neighbor noted the homeowners, Josh and Becky Kuntz, were gone so opened the back door and rescued the two dogs.

Firefighters then arrived and found fire in the attic above the living room.

The fire damaged the attic and caused smoke and water damage throughout the upper level of the house.

No one was injured.

Investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
