LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

September is National Recovery Month and La Crosse's Mayor Tim Kabat marked the event with a proclamation on Tuesday.

It honors the 25th anniversary of National Recovery Month which raises awareness about Mental and Substance Use Disorders.

The mayor hopes the proclamation will let people know about prevention, treatment, and recovery support services in the area Experts say many times mental health problems and substance abuse go hand in hand.

Addiction specialists want people who are struggling to know there is hope.

"We hear so much all the time about all the drug issues here in our community and that sometimes we do forget that people actually do get into recovery, and they do get well,” said Pat Ruda, of Addiction Medical Solutions.
