HOLMEN, Wis. (WKBT) -

The Mississippi Valley Conservancy will offer a guided flower identification hike of the Holland Sand Prairie State Natural Area on Saturday, August 16 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The 61-acre prairie hike is part of the 2014 “Linked to the Land” series of outdoor events sponsored by Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse.

The hike gives friends and family the opportunity to experience the last large sand prairie remnant on the terraces of the entire Upper Mississippi River. The prairie contains native landforms and natural communities that are similar to pre-European settlement.

The hike will be led by Prairie Enthusiast board member, Jim Rogala, who will identify rare plants and flowers in bloom.
