LA CRESCENT, Minn. (WKBT) -

The race for governor in Minnesota is heating up as one of the candidates makes a stop in our area this weekend.

Republican Marty Seifert was in La Crescent Saturday morning as part of his campaign to visit all 87 counties in Minnesota. Education and welfare were a few of the topics discussed during the stop. Seifert says one of his main campaign goals is to give small towns in Minnesota, a voice.

"I grew up in a town of 120 people, so we are making sure that every single person - regardless of where they live - has an opportunity to meet with me, ask me questions, to have discussions, to talk about issues,” Seifert said.

Seifert is one of a handful of Republican candidates looking to run against Democratic governor Mark Dayton this fall. The primary vote for that election is on Aug. 12.
