MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (AP) -

Minneapolis police say a three-alarm fire has engulfed several apartment units, and multiple injuries have been reported.

Police spokesman John Elder says firefighters responded Wednesday to reports of an explosion and fire. He says he's not sure how many people may have been hurt but he expects to have more information later Wednesday.

It's not clear how many injuries there were, or where any injured people may have been taken. A spokeswoman for the University of Minnesota Medical Center said she couldn't release any information, citing patient privacy.

The fire department did not immediately return a message.
