LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

Unwanted medications can sometimes be a hassle to get rid of.

La Crosse County tried making that a little less stressful Saturday with a medication drop off.

While there are drop boxes at several police stations this one is different. They accepted a wider variety of medications.

Organizers expect several hundreds of pounds of medication. They said the drop offs are a good way to avoid drug abuse.

"People are having them stolen from their homes or from their families members sometimes they are abusing them. So getting them out of the people's homes and properly destroyed is a valuable service,” said Special Waste Manager Randy Nedrelo.

The next drop off will be held on September 12th.
