BELOIT, Wis. -

A pit bull had be to euthanized after its owner shot it while it was attacking people inside a house, according to a release from Beloit police.

Police were called overnight Tuesday to the area of Elmwood and Robinson avenues on a report of shots fired. Officers said they discovered the shots had been fired at a house in the 2400 block of Robinson Drive.

Investigators said a pit bull that belonged to Donald J. Stenberg began to attack a couple of the people in the house. Stenberg got a gun fired multiple times at the dog, hitting it at least two times, according to the release.

Police said the dog was taken to a veterinarian for emergency care, where it was euthanized.

Stenberg was arrested on suspicion of felon in possession of a firearm and endangering safety by the use of a dangerous weapon.
