Man dies during Vernon County bicycle event

VERNON COUNTY, Wis. -

 A 59-year-old man from Faribault, Minnesota, died at the Kickapoo Kicker bicycle event in in the Town of Viroqua on Saturday.

The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office said it appeared Todd Peterson had a medical problem and another bicyclist found him lying next to his bike on the shoulder of Railroad Avenue just south of Cherry Grove Road.

Within minutes, emergency personnel arrived and began CPR on Peterson. Vernon County Sheriff John Spears says the attempt to resuscitate Peterson was unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead a short time later. Peterson was wearing a helmet, but the cause of death appears to be unrelated to any ty[e of head trauma, Spears said.
