WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. -

Lake Delton police have released the name of the Iowa man who died after losing control of his go-kart at a Wisconsin track.

Police say 45-year-old Wade Wiese, of Charlotte, Iowa, died Wednesday at Alligator Alley Adventures Go-Kart Track in Lake Delton.

Although under new ownership, Alligator Alley Adventures is the same Dells attraction location where Teagan Marti was injured in 2010, said Sgt. Gerald Grimsled of the Lake Delton Police Department.
“It does appear it was a freak accident,” Grimsled said.
Officials said it appears Wiese lost control of the cart going around a corner, struck bumpers that go around the track to keep the cars on the track and tipped on its side.
It appears when the cart tipped on its side, the man struck his head on a wood post along the track, officials said.
Responding officers found Wiese had suffered severe head injury and trauma, according to the release.
Officials said treatment was provided to the man at the track and MedFlight was called in but the man was pronounced dead at the scene approximately 45 minutes after the accident.
“Bad things happen to good people, unfortunately, and this appears to be one of those instances where something bad happened to a good person who was just out enjoying themselves,” Grimsled said.
Witnesses told officials there were no other go-karts around him at the time of the accident, according to the release.
Wiese was visiting Lake Delton with family. The accident is still under investigation. Grimsled said that will soon involve the state.
At this time, police don’t believe the man was under the influence of alcohol or drugs and don’t suspect there was any malfunction with the go-kart. However, Grimsled said, the state will help investigate whether or not the equipment worked properly. Police have not ruled out a medical issue.
Mount Olympus owner Nick Laskaris said he was completely shocked by the news.
“Do incidents happen? Yes, but thank god, not as serious as this one,” Laskaris said.
Laskaris said the state inspects his go-karts and tracks every year, and he sets a speed limit for his cars at 15 miles per hour.
“The industry is very, very safe and there are thousands of go-kart tracks out there,” Laskaris said.
Alligator Alley Adventures tells us the go-kart track is currently closed but the other attractions are open. Calls to the new owners went unreturned.
