Republican wins Iowa Senate special election

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The outcome of a special election in suburban Des Moines has left the Democrats with 26 seats in the Iowa Senate versus 24 for the GOP.

Republican Charles Schneider beat Democrat Desmund Adams in Tuesday's voting, 56 percent to 43 percent.

The District 22 opening was created by the Oct. 15 death of Pat Ward, a Republican. Her name remained on the general election ballot Nov. 6, so a special election was scheduled.

District 22 includes Windsor Heights, Waukee, Clive and parts of West Des Moines and rural Dallas County.

Schneider is a lawyer from West Des Moines. Adams, from Clive, owns an executive recruiting and human resources company.
