LA CROSSE, Wis. -

It was a special send-off for a man taking on a big challenge.

Chris Pundzak, a dedicated volunteer at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, is preparing for a bike trip across the state.

Pundzak has cerebral palsy but he's not letting that get in the way of making the 200-mile trek.

On Saturday, La Crosse Diocese Bishop William Callahan gave Pundzak a special blessing at the shrine for the trip.

He'll start in Milwaukee, ending at the Shrine of Guadalupe.

"He'll be a roaming ambassador for our lady, bringing people here to the Shrine of Guadalupe, but also raising consciousness of places where our lady is revered in places throughout our state," said Bishop Callahan.

The director of the Shrine, Leif Arvidson, said Pundzak comes five days a week to volunteer.

He said the bike trip is just another example of Pundzak's dedication to serve.

"I think the most important thing that Christopher brings here is joy and happiness. He's just such a great person and he loves being around other people and helping out wherever he can," said Arvidson.
