A local task force is looking out for homeowners living in La Crosse's flood plain.

Members of the Flood Plain Task force met Tuesday night with local officials and residents to talk about flood insurance programs.

They focused on how insurance for houses in the flood plain will work with the newly revised Biggert-Water Act that was put in place earlier this month.

Their goal is to not only help homeowners learn more about the options they have with insurance, but what help they'll need in years to come.

"We need to have some money for getting people out of the flood plain and I've been pushing this for many years and we need dollars. State dollars, federal dollars to help the people in the flood plain," said La Crosse City Council Member Andrea Richmond.

Representatives from FEMA and the DNR also spoke at the meeting.
