It's an easy food drive to take part in, but it goes a long way.
This weekend many community members opened their mailboxes to find a plastic bag inside.
It's for the letter carriers' "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive.
The bags are dropped off around the community and will be picked up on Saturday, May 11, hopefully full of non-perishable food items.
Shelly Krause, the executive director of the La Crosse Hunger Task Force said the drive comes at a very important time of year.
"We are serving close to 60 meal sites and food sites. For a drive like this that is community-wide and we get a lot of food from this, it really makes the difference for a lot of these food pantries and meal sites and we're looking at now half our kids on free and reduced lunch and the summer months are coming, so it's very important this drive is happening now," said Krause.
All the food will go to pantries and meal sites serving the neighborhoods it was collected in.
