More people will be able to find a place to stay warm next winter.
The La Crosse Warming Center, which is run by Catholic Charities in La Crosse, is moving to the former Schneider Heating and Air Conditioning building. That's located just south of Grand River Station on 3rd Street.
The new building will be renovated this summer to be handicap accessible, have washers and dryers, and a big kitchen.
Last year, Catholic Charities says they turned away about 300 people.
The new location will be able to house at least 10 more people overnight.
"We'll be open probably until the end of April, for sure, and along with that we'll be able to get people in sooner at night and let them stay a little longer in the morning before they have to leave," said the center's director Mary Fitzpatrick.
The building is being donated for two years. After that, Catholic Charities is expected to buy the building or enter into a long term agreement.
