LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

Students in La Crosse got a first-hand look Friday at what it's like to be a first responder.

Two dozen kids from the Health Science Academy received real-life scenario training from the La Crosse Fire Department Friday morning.

After learning about the equipment firefighters and EMT's carry, the kids put the knowledge to the test in a simulated mass casualty event where they helped coordinate a patient triage system.

The Health Science Academy includes students from across the La Crosse School District who have shown an interest in a career in the healthcare field.
