LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

La Crosse police arrested a 19-year-old for stalking and disorderly conduct charges.

Austin Novak, of La Crosse, met the female victim he stalked while attending a local university, La Crosse police said. The victim told police on several occasions over the course of weeks, Novak attempted to speak to her, followed her to her car and tried to kiss her.

After being denied a friend request on Facebook, Novak also tried to reach out to the victim’s friends and also rode his bike to the victim’s parent’s house, police said. On January 16, after La Crosse police officers conducted a search warrant at Novak’s residence, he was taken into custody and jailed on stalking and disorderly conduct charges.

On January 17, Novak had his initial appearance and was released on a $5,000 signature bond. Less than 24 hours later, a La Crosse police officer saw Novak leave his residence and walk to the victim’s apartment building where he was arrested again. Police said, “Novak gave no legitimate explanation for being at the victim’s apartment building when arrested.”
