The La Crosse School District is hoping changes to the northside school building project will save them hundreds of thousands of dollars.

After the contract was awarded for the project, the district went through the plans to see if there were places they could save money. They came up with more than a dozen changes totaling savings of nearly $370,000.

They include things like how the roof is being installed, as well as changes to some of the landscaping and plumbing equipment.

The district wanted them to be small changes that teachers and students wouldn't even notice. "When we looked at changes, we wanted them to be small, we wanted them to be in such a way that most people walking through the building wouldn't even recognize them and so that was really important to us," said the district's Buildings and Grounds Supervisor Joe Ledvina.
