La Crosse's Department of Public Works is getting international recognition for a recent project.
The American Public Works Association presented La Crosse's department the Project of the Year award for its work on the Bud Hendrickson Memorial Nature Trail and Pedestrian Bridge.
La Crosse's project beat out contenders in the United States, Canada and other countries across the world.
Public Works director Dale Hexom went to Minneapolis to accept the award last week. He says the city was recognized for the more than 15 years of planning and connecting communities.
"It's a significant improvement to that connectivity for bicyclists, pedestrians, people who enjoy nature and walking and exercise, so it was a significant link to our bike pedestrian plan," said Hexom.
The national award comes after the city won the state award from the Wisconsin chapter of the Public Works Association in May.
