The new year will bring new hours for the La Crosse Public Library.
The library's board recently voted to cut the number of hours two of the city's branches will be open in 2017. The North Community Library and South Community Library will be open between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays and from noon until 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
La Crosse Public Library Director Kelly Krieg-Sigman says the decision is a result of budget constraints and a changing landscape for the services libraries provide.
The library also recently completed an 18-month study to look at how people are using the library to figure out the best times to be open.
"What we did is we looked at those usage patterns and picked the days where we were the busiest and the hours we were the busiest and created this new schedule around that data," said Krieg-Sigman.
The change in hours were also made in part due to a decrease in staffing. The changes will take effect on January 1st.
