LA CROSSE, WI -

The La Crosse Police Department received a $25,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) for additional patrols to focus on alcohol impaired driving.

Over the next 12 months, La Crosse police will assign officers to 4-hour shifts between the hours of 6 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. to help reduce alcohol impaired driving and improve traffic safety in the city. Those deployments will happen about 4-5 times each month.

La Crosse police will also be participating with other agencies across Wisconsin in High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) saturation patrols during the following time periods:

December 7—16, 2013 (Booze and Belts)
March 4—20, 2014 (St. Patrick’s Day)
May 20—June 2, 2014 (CIOT National Mobilization)
July 1 – 17, 2014 (Summer Heat)
Aug. 16– Sept. 2, 2014 (Alcohol Crackdown)

During HVE, officers will focus on cracking down on alcohol impaired driving, speed, traffic light violations and seat belt violations with zero tolerance.
