LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

The La Crosse Police Department has received several complaints about a woman driving around the La Crosse area who then stops to ask people for money.

Police said the woman is often crying and asking for money to get back home to Black River Falls or Tomah “when in fact this female lives on the north side of La Crosse.”

“The vehicle and person in the complaints has been identified, contacted and warned about asking for money under false pretenses and was made aware of the complaints,” La Crosse police posted on their Facebook wall.

Police want to remind citizens of La Crosse and surrounding area “to be cautious of this and other possible frauds taking place.”

A News 8 viewer told us the woman drives a red car and shuts it off so you can’t read the gas gauge and then starts to cry and ask for money to get back home. The viewer said she has seen the woman at area Kwik Trips, Walmart, Viterbo, and Valley View Mall.
