LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

With the increasing popularity of web sites like Craigslist and other classified ads, many people in the area were looking for a public place to complete transactions.

That's why the La Crosse Police Department recently created a public "Exchange Zone" at Grand River Station.

Sgt. Tom Walsh says the bus station was a great place for the exchange zone, with 12 security cameras monitoring the area and a central location.

"People from the north end of our county to the south end of our county can meet right here, do their exchanges, know they're in a safe area, know the that the place is being monitored electronically and get their exchanges completed," said Sgt. Walsh.

Police recommend also bringing a friend with you to the exchanges and trading during daytime hours as extra precautions to stay safe.
