LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

A massive mural on the side of the Pump House Regional Arts Center near La Crosse's downtown will be shown off the first time around this time Friday night.

It's being put together by an internationally recognized artist John Pugh and some local people he helped train.

We got a bit of a sneak preview of the artwork Thursday morning. Pugh expects this to be something everyone in the area can be proud of.

"I think they'll see something that they'll connect with, that means something to them,” Pugh said. “The (Mississippi) River, the River basin, the romance of the steamboat, and the diverse people that are in the project, and they're not just people that are just posing there, they're living their life, they're being La Crosse."

The curtain drops on the mural Friday at 5:45 p.m.
