LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

Bell ringers from across the Midwest are in La Crosse this week for their Bi-Annual Festival Conference.

About 400 bell ringers are over at the La Crosse Center until June 22. During the conference, participants will attend classes and rehearse music.

On June 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the La Crosse Center, the choirs will come together for a performance that is free to the public.

The last time La Crosse hosted the event was about 14 years ago and one organizer said it's a great city to explore.

"It's fun to be able to coordinate it  because you get to know the city, so I got to know La Crosse, so I got to know where to eat, and where to shop and pearl street and the history and then I was able to share with the members and say these are the things you do with your free time," said JoBeth Ranfranz, the festival chair with Handbell Musicians of America, Area 7.

Part of the donations collected during the public performances will got to WAFER, a local food shelter.
