After more than two decades of service to La Crosse, a firefighter is hanging up his jacket one last time.
Richard Hall has been an engineer with the fire department for the past 23 years. He retired on Memorial Day.
Before that, he served in the military for 23 years, and as a volunteer firefighter in the Madison area for six.
For the past four years, he's been based out of station number four on Liberty and Gillette Streets.
The fire captain working with him says he was easily one of the most reliable firefighters he's served with. "Around the station, Rick's sense of humor, he is meticulousness with his rig, he's one engineer the La Crosse Fire Department is sorely going to miss for the stuff he does, he knows his truck inside and out," said Capt. Dave Stetzer.
"You make a lot of good friends here within the service, not just here but all over the state of Wisconsin for some of the things I've done," said Hall.
Now that he's retired, if he's not playing golf or bowling, he plans to volunteer with a local hospital and with his church.
