The La Crosse Fire Department is opening its doors to the community to kick off national fire safety week.
Saturday, families got to tour different parts of the fire station including the fire trucks, the smoke house and the kitchen safety trailer as part of the 29th annual open house.
Kids and their parents were able to meet the firefighters while exploring the station, but the open house wasn't just meant for kids.
"The kids love it," said Tom Snyder, division chief of the La Crosse Fire Department. They get to come in and see the cool fire trucks and stuff like that, and parents really enjoy it too because they come in and get to learn something that maybe they didn't already know. We talk to them a lot about fire safety in the home, having a an escape plan (and) checking your smoke detectors."
This year's theme of national fire safety week is "kitchen fires".
