LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

The La Crosse Center is one step closer to getting a major make-over.

Board members met Monday to pick a company to evaluate the building.

CSL out of the twin cities will do a study on the center, looking at what it needs to compete with other event centers around the Midwest.

Board members will then decide on what exactly to do with the aging building. "We've selected a firm to look at everything. We're looking at internally and externally and seeing what the market looks like out there for us to consider all three of the remodeling, renovation, or expansion options we might bring to the table," said La Crosse Center Dir. Art Fahey.

The convention hall and arena were originally built in 1980.
