LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

A 24-year-old La Crosse man arrested for attempted armed robbery at an apartment in January was sentenced Wednesday morning.

A La Crosse County judge sentenced James Green to five years initial confinement and eleven years extended supervision.

Green was charged with attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearm and pleaded guilty. La Crosse police said Green and a 15-year-old male were wearing masks when they entered an apartment building on the 1100 block of 9th Street S. on January 9.

Green picked the house to try to feed his drug addiction, La Crosse County Judge Todd Bjerke said in court Wednesday morning.

"Anything short of prison would unduly depreciate the gravity of this offense, given the nature of what I've looked at here so far with you,” Judge Bjerke said.

For count one (attempted armed robbery, party to the crime, repeater), Green was sentenced to three years initial confinement and seven years extended supervision. For count two (possession of a firearm as a felon), Green was sentenced to two years in prison and four years extended supervision consecutive to count one.
