LA CRESCENT, Minn. -

A piece of history has returned to a local fire department.

The La Crescent Fire Department recently bought a 1951 fire truck. 20 years ago, it was actually in service within the department.

When it was replaced, it was sold, then it went to a junk dealer who was going to scrap it, but offered it back to the department for $1,000.

The firefighters pooled their money to get back their truck to show off. "It's going to be a parade truck and promotional stuff like that, but we're quite proud of it, because if we let go of our history, you know, this is the only little piece we got left," said La Crescent Fire Chief John Meyer.

There's still a little tune up to be done on the truck, but the chief says he doesn't expect to ever see it in service again.

When the department originally bought the truck, it was the first one the department ever purchased.
