LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

A local star is hoping to bring some more attention to the North Dakota Pipeline protests this weekend.

La Crosse native and Wisconsin Badgers basketball star Bronson Koenig heads to the state.

Koenig, his brother Miles, and a friend packed up a trailer full of donations for pipeline protestors this morning.

Koenig says he hopes the trip will show the plight of both the Native American tribes involved and others around the world.

"I just felt like I needed to go shed a little light on the issue, bring some attention to it, because it just started getting a little bit of national attention and it's still being overshadowed by things that aren't quite as important, so I just hope to bring a little light on the issue," says Koenig.

Koenig also says he's excited to meet others in the Native American community and learn more about his heritage.
