WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) -

A Winona jury on Thursday convicted 20 people of trespassing while protesting frac sand mining operations in Winona.

After a four day trial in Winona County, jurors took three hours to come to a verdict.

Each protester was sentenced to a year of unsupervised probation. Part of the sentencing also orders those convicted to stay away from frac sand operations.

Each also has to pay $85 in court costs and $200 in restitution which will go back to the mining operations.

A spokesperson for the group said in an email, "The mood outside of the courtroom was resolute and committed following the conclusion of the trial, as the group held hands in a circle and closed their eyes in silent prayer. This group did not seem defeated but instead emboldened in their resolve to work for change."
