The JDRF held its annual "One Walk" Sunday afternoon at Myrick Park.
The mile-and-a-half walk helps raise money for Type-1 diabetes research and is one of hundreds held across the country every year.
Aside from fundraising, Lori Fons of the JDRF says the event also helps build a sense of solidarity for those living with the disease.
"It just brings people together," said Fons. "So for us, Type-1, so many people on the diagnosis are so afraid, it shows them that they're not alone, it gives them the sense of being together as a family to go through this disease together."
About 40-thousand dollars for research was raised online before today's walk.
Organizers hope same-day registrations push them closer to their goal of 70-thousand dollars.
