JACKSON COUNTY, Wis. (WKBT) -

The Jackson Co. Sheriff identified the suspect and the victim stabbed during a fight in a tavern Wednesday night.

In a press release, the sheriff's office says 36 year old Richard West was fighting with 44 year old David Peterson at the Whispering Pines Tavern in the Garfield Township. By the time officers arrived, West had left the tavern.

Peterson was taken to a hospital in Osseo for "a non-life threatening cut type injury to the abdomen," according to the statement. He has since been released.

Authorities found West at his residence on West Hillcrest Road in the Garfield Township. After brief negotiations, authorities arrested West without incident. He's charged with aggravated battery and in the Jackson County Jail.

A person is in custody after an alleged stabbing incident in the Town of Garfield, Jackson County.

Jackson County Sheriff Duane Waldera said a physical altercation at the Whispering Pines tavern ended with a man allegedly being stabbed.

The victim left the tavern prior to deputies arriving on scene, but is now receiving medical care. The extent of the injury is unknown at this time.

The suspect also left the tavern prior to law enforcement arriving. The suspect was later located and taken into custody.

The investigation is ongoing. The sheriff expects to release more details Thursday morning.
