The man convicted of strangling a La Crosse woman to death last year wants a new trial.
Attorneys for Izalia Golatt, the man found guilty of killing Kristen Tabbert Rodgers in March of 2012, says the jury deliberated and reached a verdict while the county courthouse was closed.
They say that means he did not receive access to a public trial and violates his constitutional rights.
The prosecuting attorney says the transcript from the case clearly shows the court was open. A judge will make a decision at a hearing next week.
