The Orange Construction barrels along Highway 16 in La Crosse will be gone by this time next week.

Officials say the pavement replacement project will wrap up Wednesday night, but not before a few more overnight lane closures.

Workers will need Monday through Wednesday to put down the last bit of asphalt and for pavement markings. "The pavement is 30+ years old, the traffic volume is about 40,000 cars a day and we want to make this pavement last as long as we can," said D.O.T. Project Manager Reiny Yahnke.

The project has two more phases that are scheduled to be completed next summer.
