La Crosse home sales continue to fall behind last year's numbers. That's based on the most recent housing market report released by the Wisconsin Realtors Association.
When comparing last year's numbers, May homes sales in La Crosse dropped by about 9%.
The recent decline is seen statewide as well.
This is the fifth straight month home sales have declined compared to where La Crosse was this time last year.
However, while sales decreased, the median prices for homes actually increased more than 11% to about $153,000.
Realtors say one good tip in selling your home is to get a house inspection. They say that way you can fix potential problems before the house reaches the market.
"You could advertise it say with a new roof or a with new furnace or discount the price accordingly to give that buyer a credit for a new roof or a new furnace or whatever the case may be," said the President of the La Crosse Area Realtor's Association Cindy Gerke.
The Realtor's Association blames the declining numbers on a couple of different things.
One big reason is the job market. Wisconsin's unemployment rate dropped below 6% last month. Realtors say even though the economy is improving it still can affect sales.
They also say the harsh winter impacted the numbers which kept buyers from looking.
