The growing drug problem in our area has some members of the community concerned.

That's why the Ho Chunk Nation held a "Taking Back Our Communities" drug forum at the Three Rivers House in La Crosse Thursday night.

Speakers talked about drug prevention, intervention and harm reduction strategies while sharing what they've seen in the community.

Organizer Tena Quackenbush says problems with heroin and meth extend beyond the city of La Crosse.

"I think we need to bring awareness to what's going on in our small communities, and in order to get a hold of what's going on in our communities we need to actually know what's going on first," said Quackenbush.

Thursday's forum included addiction specialists, health educators and members of the law enforcement community.
