LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

A La Crosse County judge set February 13 as the next hearing date for Eric Koula's appeal.

Koula was convicted of killing his parents, Dennis and Merna Koula in their Town of Barre home in May 2010. A La Crosse County judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole on August 15, 2012.

In mid-November, Koula’s attorneys filed a motion appealing the homicide conviction.

District Attorney Tim Gruenke has to file a response to the defense motion by January 10. Gruenke said the defense can then submit a reply by January 31. On February 13, the judge will have a scheduling conference to decide what to do from there, Gruenke said.
