HOLMEN, Wis. (WKBT) -

One local church is celebrating Easter Sunday with a special ground breaking.

Halfway Creek Lutheran Church in Holmen broke ground on a new addition Sunday.  Their current church building was built back in 1913. The new addition will include fellowship and educational space, bathrooms, an elevator, church offices and a covered entrance.

The addition will be added to the front, leaving the historic sanctuary in place.

The church says the project is possible because of generous donations from members. "One congregation member donated $100,000, asked the rest of the congregation to match that, it was a matching pledge type of thing," said church member John Daily, "that inspired another congregation member to donate another $100,000 to match."

The church hopes to have the addition done by the end of the year.
