A new initiative at Gundersen Health System is looking to making the building safer.
Starting June 2nd, the hospital will enforce a "No Hit Zone" policy.
It's an effort to help staff handle uncomfortable situations and have the tools to intervene.
The policy isn't limited to adults hitting children. It applies to anyone hitting anyone else. "We're not trying to point fingers at people and say, you know, 'you're a bad parent or you're a bad person.' It's really just about making the staff more comfortable about addressing situations that we see everyday," said Gundersen Social Worker Carolynn Devine.
The social worker hopes the staff will feel comfortable to address similar situaions outside of the hospital too.
