Many local hunters are using the gun deer hunting season to give back to those in need.
Area hunters and meat processors are taking part in the 'Hunters for the Hungry' program .
Hunters can donate meat from their hunt to be distributed to area food pantries.
The program put on by the hunger task force aims to help low income familes add a healthy balance to their diet.
Area food panties say they are in always in need of help and are thankful for increased community support during the holidays.
"You know, right at this time of year, we are so grateful to the community because this is the time of giving, we have people who decide, we've got to help out those who are less fortunate than ourselves and it's a great time to donate to the Hunger Task Force because we are in need of everything," said Hunger Task Force executive director Shelly Krause.
Organizers hope to process more than 10,000 lbs of meat this year.
