Grandad Half Marathon events lead to...

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) - Thousands of runners and bikers are headed to La Crosse this weekend for some fun on the bluff.

Festivities for the 9th annual Festival Foods Grandad Half Marathon kick off Friday.

The three-day event starts with cycling and running time trials up Bliss Road at 5 p.m. Friday with the half marathon and 5K taking place on Saturday morning.

With part of the route taking an estimated 3,000 runners and bikers through the south side of La Crosse, race director Tyler Heinz says drivers should be alert this weekend.

"If you see cones, if you see barricades, pay attention to them. They're there for a reason this weekend and we want to be sure everyone is safe," said Heinz.
