The partial federal government shutdown is preventing Pearl Street Brewery from releasing its latest beer.
Pearl Street Brewery Owner and Brewmaster Joe Katchever said each label on a beer has to go through a certification process to become a brew by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB). But Katchever says the government shutdown stopped this process.
“We have the product. The label has been designed. The artwork has been done. All the prep has been made and the packaging material has been produced and we’re ready to go except for, because of this shutdown, we’re not able to proceed, so yeah, that’s really frustrating,” Katchever said.
Katchever said he hasn’t been able to get through to the Tax and Trade Bureau by phone or email, so he’s not sure when their new brew will be released. They are able to continue production on their beers that are already on the market.
