MONROE COUNTY, Wis. (WKBT) -

The former La Crosse police officer who was caught stealing fake drugs planted in the evidence room pleads guilty.

Brian Thomson, 44, was convicted of attempting to posses narcotic drugs without a prescription.

Thomson reached an agreement with prosecutors Monday in a Monroe County Court.

Back in August, he was arrested and resigned on the same day when he confessed to stealing the pills

He also admitted to stealing other drugs.

A tentative sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 27, 2014 in La Crosse County. Judge Todd Ziegler from Monroe County will still preside over the case.

The attorneys from both sides will jointly seek probation at the sentencing hearing, according to the minutes from Monday's hearing taken from the Monroe County Clerk of Courts. The State will also recommend some La Crosse County jail time be served and that the defendant attend a drug treatment program.

Thomson's attorney Keith Belzer indicated he would ask for no jail time and Thomson's sentence be served while wearing an electronic monitoring device, according to the Clerk of Courts.

No restitution has been ordered to be paid by the defendant but may be ordered if the need for restitution is found by the court during a required pre-sentence investigation, the Clerk of Courts said.
