Bronson Koenig's dad traveled to Texas for the big game.
Paul Koenig and his friends made the 14-hour drive from La Crosse Friday to watch his son take the court Saturday night. We caught up with him at his hotel in Plano and talked about how a father feels, leading up to the Final Four.
The Wisconsin takeover of Texas is in full swing at the stadium, but Saturday Paul Koenig is relaxing poolside. "I think it's pre-destined that we're going to win this game, and there's really nothing I can do about it, so why get nervous?" said Paul.
You might call Paul's attitude the calm before the storm. His son Bronson is a Badger basketball player, about to take on Kentucky in the Final Four face-off. "I'm going to have seats right close to the bench and the refs will be able to hear me and I told my friends to hold me down if things aren't going our way and I have to give it to the refs," said Paul.
"Very, very proud father, and I would be too," said Paul's friend Jim Grant. They say still water runs deep,in Paul's case, his cool demeanor might hide the pride but his suitcase, tells all. "I got a couple shirts I'll probably be wearing here," said Paul as he pulled out one red shirt after another.
When you come down here to the final four, you gotta be prepared," added Jim, "you know obviously red is our color and that's what we're going to be wearing."
For all his wardrobe preparation, Paul still swears he's relaxed and ready to enjoy his Texas getaway before the big game. You may not find him jumping in anytime soon, but come Saturday night, he's hoping to find Kentucky in a little hot water.
Paul said he talked to Bronson earlier Saturday and said he's feeling great.
